Nominations for Awards

Awards are made by the committee and we welcome suggestions from anyone for who should receive awards, especially for Wookie Mushroom, Jess Hanafin Women in Sport Award and Lifeguard of the Year. To nominate someone for any award, please send details inlcuding their name, the award and an explanation of why they should receive it, to awards@branksomechineslsc.org.uk. Pay attention to the award's criteria when making your suggestion.

The committee are considering introducing new awards and welcome proposals. If you feel there could be a new award which isn't covered by the criteria of existing ones, please email awards@branksomechineslsc.org.uk with details of the award and proposed criteria that you would like to see.

Victor (male) and Victrix (female): are awarded to the most successful people in competition, based on points medal tally and where necessary the Sports Captains opinion

Nipper Awards


Liam Openshaw New Nipper Trophy: for a Nipper in their first year of membership who has shown great promise for the future of Life Saving Sport.


The Pratten Shield for Nippers: for attendance and commitment to training, willingness to listen and learn, enthusiasm and contribution to wider club activities

Youth Awards


England Youth Choice Cup: Each year the recipient will be chosen by peers from the Youth Squad. At the end of the beach season all youth are invited to vote on which youth member (male or female) they think is most deserving of the cup, taking into account some or all of the following: Supportive and considerate to other members of the squad; team player and participation in club events; inspirational sporting ability and willingness to do voluntary safety cover duties.

Youth: Please submit your vote for one Youth member by email to awards@branksomechineslsc.org.uk. If you submit multiple votes then your last email received will be the one counted.





All Club Awards


Wookie Mushroom: awarded to the most improved member, demonstrated by improved personal performance


Jess Hanafin Women in Sport Award: to the person (male or female) who does the most for the progression of women (16yrs+) in surf lifesaving sport. This may be a female who leads by example and competes over and above what is expected of them or a club member who does a defined period of coaching, promotion or leadership that particularly benefits, develops or promotes female athletes


Lifeguard of the Year: for outstanding contribution to life saving





Special Acknowledgements


Club Appreciation: for members or non-members who have supported the club over the year by giving exceptional additional time, money or other resources. (not for established club member roles such as committee or coaches).


Commitment to the club: taking on a coaching, training or organising positions within the club, going above and beyond.
