SPORTS & TRAINING
Our Club Teams & Activities
The purpose of surf lifesaving sports training and competition is to keep Lifeguards fit and their skills honed in the event of the need for a real rescue.
The original purpose of Surf Lifesaving Sports training and competition was to keep Lifeguards fit and their skills honed in the event of the need for a real rescue and this still holds true today. The sports training element of our club is strong and the club has showed well in recent years winning the National Championships at Nippers (8 -13 years), Youth (13-17 years) and Masters (30+) levels in 2021 and 2022.
Some of the different disinclines that athletes compete are represented in the images below including sea swimming, racing board / mal and the surf ski which is a long thin kayak. Both the craft featured are sports versions of craft that can and have been used to effect real life rescues at sea.
Arguably the marque event is the Ocean Man/Ocean Woman event in which athletes must complete all three disciplines one after the other across a course marked out by coloured cans in a race environment against other athletes.
Details of the BCSLSC teams and our membership enquiry form can be found below.
Although we train throughout the year (a mix of sea/surf, beach and indoor activities), we also have many social events along with both local and national competitions in our yearly calendar.
